Color Separation Techniques for Beginners

Learn to read colors as groups, track approximate shortages, distinguish similar tones, and manage active versus blocked tray colors.

Color separation is more than sending identical balls to identical trays. As speed increases, players need to see clusters, shortages, and priorities instead of tracking every ball individually.

Learn location together with color

Think “the yellow target in the second column” instead of only “yellow.” The same color can appear in several columns, and location helps you remember which tray is closest to completion.

Do not count every moving ball

Classify track clusters as small, medium, or large. Knowing that pink has a large cluster while yellow has a small one is often enough for the next decision.

Estimate the shortage

Tray capacities can be three, four, or six. Read the visible holes and estimate what remains. When one slot is empty, a small release is safer than a large multiplier group.

Use position and shape to support similar tones

Blue, purple, or colors seen through glass effects can look similar on some screens. Combine hue with tray position, source labels, nearby targets, and progress animation. Extremely low screen brightness can also reduce distinction.

Separate active and inactive colors

Visible, unlocked tray colors are active. Colors behind barriers or deep in the queue are inactive. Avoid filling the track with inactive colors. Use Shuffle when the source area becomes dominated by colors that cannot currently be used.

Choose one main color and one backup

Advance one primary color while keeping a secondary color ready for the next row. Trying to develop four or five colors equally can make early decisions slower.

Track the multiplier color in advance

Watch the multiplier source before you need it. Use it when it matches a prepared target, not simply because the multiplier is available.

Create a column rhythm in top-selection mode

Only lower accessible groups can be released. Move through columns in a balanced pattern so upper colors unlock predictably.

A short practice routine

  1. Study visible colors for two seconds.
  2. Find the two trays with the largest shortage.
  3. Classify matching track clusters as small, medium, or large.
  4. Release only a source that fills a real shortage.
  5. Reclassify after a tray completes and the queue shifts.

Color-reading speed improves naturally. The real goal is not to look faster, but to build a visual system that reaches correct decisions with less mental effort.
